Acting Vice Chancellor Opens Internal Capacity-Building Training on Consultancy Techniques

Description:
On Saturday, February 21, 2026 The Acting Vice Chancellor of Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU), Prof. Gervas Machimu, has officially opened an internal capacity-building training for staff on Consultancy Techniques, Negotiation and Lobbying.

Addressing participants, Prof. Machimu emphasized that the University’s core mandates include teaching, research, and the provision of professional consultancy services. He noted that while academics are committed to delivering quality education, they also bear the responsibility of addressing societal challenges through research and expert advisory services.

He encouraged staff to actively engage in community and professional activities, stressing that long-term credibility in the consultancy market is built through visibility, networking, and demonstrated competence. He further advised participants to begin gaining experience progressively, including through voluntary engagements, in order to strengthen practical exposure that enhances both teaching and consultancy effectiveness.

Prof. Machimu also directed the Directorate of Consultancy Services to continue organizing similar seminars and trainings regularly, particularly to support newly recruited staff in actively participating in consultancy assignments. He underscored that communities expect tangible and positive transformation arising from the professional services provided by the University.

Among the key topics to be covered during the two-day training is the Review and Development of Strategic Plans for Co-operative and Non-co-operative Organizations, aimed at strengthening institutional performance and sustainability.
