Program Overview

This program equips graduates with the technical expertise and intellectual foundation needed to pursue successful careers in microfinance and banking. It fosters professionalism, preparing them to take on diverse roles within the competitive and evolving financial sector.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives are to:

  • Equip candidates with theoretical and practical knowledge in microfinance and banks functions and practices.
  • Encourage candidates to have the spirit of initiating, developing, and managing sustainable microfinance institutions.
  • Enable candidates to become change agents in the social and economic development of society; and
  • Give students the opportunity to acquire the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and abilities for using those skills to improve the efficacy and efficiency of financial sector operations.

General Entry Requirements

  • Direct entry: NQF Level 5 (Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education) with at least two principal passes in the following subjects; Economics, Accountancy, Advanced Mathematics, Commerce, Geography, History, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Computer Science, Business studies, Nutrition, English Language, Kiswahili, Arabic, Fine Arts, Chinese or French.
  • Equivalent entry: NTA level 6 (ordinary diploma) that is relevant to the cluster of the programme with minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants with NTA Level 6 should have at least four passes at Ordinary level (NQF level 4). A candidate with a Foundation Certificate with at least a B+ in the relevant discipline is also eligible
  • Proficiency in English is required for all applicants.
