It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Microfinance and Banking (DMB), under the Faculty of Business and Information Sciences (FBIS) at Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU).

As part of our commitment to shaping competent professionals and advancing financial inclusion, our department anchors its activities on three core functions: teaching, research, and consultancy. Through our teaching programs which include the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Banking and Microfinance, Postgraduate Diploma in SACCOS Management (PG-SACCOS), Bachelor of Banking and Microfinance (BBMF), Diploma in Microfinance Management (DMFM), Certificate in Microfinance Management (CMF) and various short course trainings; we equip students and other stakeholders with critical knowledge, analytical skills, and ethical values required in today’s dynamic financial sector.

Our research efforts focus on contemporary issues in microfinance, financial systems, and banking practices, providing evidence-based insights to inform policy and practice. In addition, our consultancy and outreach services enable us to collaborate with financial institutions, development partners, and communities to provide solutions that drive economic empowerment and institutional growth.

The Department of Microfinance and Banking (DMB) came into existence in 2022. It is one of the seven departments under the Faculty of Business and Information Sciences (FBIS) at Moshi Co-operative University. The Department is committed to excellence in teaching, research, and consultancy aimed at advancing financial inclusion and economic empowerment. The department currently offers five academic programs which include the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Microfinance and Banking, Postgraduate Diploma in Savings and Credit Co-operative Societies Management (PGD-SACCOS), Bachelor of Banking and Microfinance (BBMF), Diploma in Microfinance Management (DMFM), Certificate in Microfinance Management (CMF) and various short course trainings designed to equip students and stakeholders with essential knowledge, analytical skills, and ethical values needed in the evolving financial sector.
