MoCU Strengthens Coffee Value Addition Capacity for NAMBIS AMCOS Members

Description:
On Tuesday, May 26, 2026 Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) continues to strengthen agricultural value addition initiatives through capacity-building activities aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of co-operative members in the coffee value chain.

MoCU scholars Dr. Esther Towo and Dr. Emmanuel Lulandala led a training visit for members of NAMBIS AMCOS, as part of ongoing efforts to improve members’ understanding of agricultural value chains and equip them with practical knowledge to enhance market competitiveness in the coffee sector.

During the programme, members visited the Tanganyika Coffee Curing Company Limited in the Kilimanjaro Region, where they gained practical exposure to coffee processing stages, including hulling, drying, and quality grading based on bean size, shape, and quality standards.

Participants also visited Union Café in Moshi, where they received practical training on coffee roasting, grinding, and packaging processes. The training further enhanced participants’ understanding of coffee value addition through branding, attractive packaging, and quality product preparation to meet market demands.

The training programme follows support provided through the REGCOOP Project, implemented by MoCU and funded by NORAD through Norges Vel Tanzania, which facilitated the provision of Vertical Coffee Roaster and Coffee Grinder machines to NAMBIS AMCOS.

The initiative is expected to support members in processing and adding value to their organic coffee products, thereby increasing product quality and enhancing market opportunities.
