MoCU and Co-operative Stakeholders Chart the Future of Co-operative Development Following REGCOOP Success

Description:
On Monday, June 01, 2026 Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU), together with key stakeholders in the co-operative sector, convened a strategic workshop to assess the achievements of the Regional Co-operative Development Project (REGCOOP) and explore opportunities for sustaining its impact beyond the project’s completion.

The workshop was officially opened by the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Research and Consultancy, Prof. John Safari, who underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration among higher learning institutions, development partners, and co-operative organizations to ensure that the gains achieved through the project continue to benefit farmers and communities.

Held under the theme, “Celebrating Achievements, Sharing Lessons, and Shaping the Future of Co-operative Development,” the workshop provided a platform for participants to reflect on the outcomes of the REGCOOP Project, which was implemented by MoCU from 2024 to May 2026 with funding from NORAD and coordinated by Norges Vel Tanzania.

Through REGCOOP, MoCU has made significant contributions to strengthening co-operative development and agricultural value chains by enhancing the capacity of AMCOS and co-operative unions through needs assessments and business training, facilitating the establishment and registration of four women-led co-operative societies in Simanjiro District, developing training modules, and building the capacity of change agents within co-operative organizations.

The project has also supported the development of the AgriCoop Business Maturity Model, aimed at promoting the growth and sustainability of co-operative enterprises, while advancing value addition initiatives through technical support, equipment provision, and study visits for co-operative members.

The workshop brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including the Tanzania Co-operative Development Commission, Farm Africa, Norges Vel Tanzania, DSIK, Kijiji cha Nyuki Company Limited, and Co-operative Bank of Tanzania. Participants collectively reflected on achievements, lessons learned, and strategies for ensuring that the outcomes of REGCOOP continue to support farmers, women, and co-operative societies across Tanzania.
