Registrar of Co-operative Societies Dr. Benson Ndiege Visits MoCU, Emphasizes Collaboration to Strengthen the Co-operative Sector

Description

The Registrar of Co-operative Societies in the country, Dr. Benson Ndiege, has visited Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU), accompanied by Assistant Registrars from mainland Tanzania regions and the management of the Tanzania Co-operative Development Commission (TCDC).

The visit aimed to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions, discuss strategies to address challenges facing the co-operative sector in the country, and explore opportunities to leverage university experts in training, research, and consultancy for the development of the co-operative sector and its members.

Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Alfred Sife, expressed his gratitude and emphasized that close cooperation between MoCU and the Registrar’s Office is essential in building a robust co-operative sector that contributes to the country’s socio-economic development.

In his presentation, Prof. Sife detailed the university’s history, its achievements in teaching, research, and community outreach, as well as ongoing efforts to upgrade infrastructure, introduce new academic programmes, and expand human resources. This ensures that the education provided directly responds to the needs of the co-operative sector and the national economy.

Dr. Ndiege underscored the importance of sustaining the partnership between the two institutions to build the capacity of co-operative societies, strengthen good governance, and enhance the sector’s contribution to national development. Consequently, he urged MoCU to continuously innovate to help solve the challenges confronting the co-operative sector.

“The Tanzania Co-operative Development Commission, MoCU, and COASCO are the three pillars that, when effectively utilized, will enable this sector to witness massive transformation,” he added.
