MoCU and TCDC Discuss Strategic Collaboration to Advance the National Co-operative Sector

Description

The team of Assistant Registrars and TCDC Management, along with key stakeholders, have discussed various strategies to strengthen the co-operative sector in the country. They emphasized collaboration in providing education, training, and research to improve performance, increase productivity, and bring sustainable success to co-operative societies.

The discussions took place today, July 8, 2026, at Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) during a visit by the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Dr. Benson Ndiege. He was accompanied by regional Assistant Registrars and the management of the Tanzania Co-operative Development Commission (TCDC).

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Ndiege stated that the development of the co-operative sector depends on the willingness of stakeholders to collaborate in finding solutions to existing challenges. He urged them to turn these challenges into opportunities to improve the operations of co-operative societies so they can be run efficiently, transparently, and on the principles of good governance.

He explained that through close cooperation between institutions that regulate, teach, and conduct research on co-operatives, it will be possible to build strong societies that increase productivity for members and strengthen the sector’s contribution to economic development.

On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Alfred Sife, said MoCU will continue to utilize its academic capacity to produce research and provide training that directly responds to the actual needs of the co-operative sector. “We all know that co-operatives are cross-cutting and serve as a crucial pillar in driving development across various sectors in the country. Therefore, the University holds a major role and stands ready to build the capacity of co-operative leaders and members, enabling them to tackle existing challenges and recognize emerging opportunities in today’s economic landscape.”

The visit has laid a solid foundation for stakeholders from all sides to reach agreements on strengthening cooperation to design and implement strategies that enhance the productivity, competitiveness, and overall welfare of co-operative societies nationwide.
