The Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU), Mtwara Office, has continued to implement its mandate of strengthening the understanding and capacity of stakeholders in the cooperative sector through training focused on cooperative matters and the activities of the Korosho Cooperative Joint Enterprise (KCJE) Ltd.
The training, which took place on July 14, 2026, at the Tiffany Hotel in the Mtwara Mikindani Municipality, brought together stakeholders from the Mtwara, Lindi, Ruvuma, and Pwani regions. These included Agricultural Officers, Assistant Registrars of Cooperative Societies, Assistant Officers to the Regional Administrative Secretaries responsible for economic and production matters, leaders from Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), the Cashewnut Board of Tanzania (CBT), the Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority (TPHPA), the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) Naliendele, TFC, as well as banks including the Tanzania Cooperative Bank (Coop Bank).
Presenting at the training, an expert from MoCU, Mtwara Office, Mr. Paul Anania, explained that cooperatives are an essential tool for enabling farmers and other stakeholders to participate fully in economic development through proper resource management, accountability, and solidarity. He emphasized the importance of stakeholders understanding cooperative principles, good governance, and how to run cooperative societies efficiently to increase productivity and bring benefits to members and the community at large.
Various topics were presented during the training, including the Concept of Cooperatives, Management and Operation of Cooperative Societies, as well as Leadership and Good Governance in Cooperative Societies. These topics aimed to build the participants’ capacity to recognize their responsibilities in strengthening the performance of cooperative societies.
Participants also learned about the Establishment of Cooperative Societies and Cooperative Laws from the Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies for the Mtwara Region, as well as the Establishment of KCJE Ltd, its roles, achievements, and challenges from the leaders of KCJE Ltd.
This training is part of MoCU’s contribution to providing education and capacity building for cooperative sector stakeholders—a step that strengthens collaboration and increases the efficiency of cooperative societies to stimulate sustainable development.
