Description:
On Sunday, May 03, 2026 Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU) organised a capacity-building event aimed at empowering students with special needs, bringing together participants from the University as well as neighbouring primary schools, secondary schools, and higher learning institutions.
The initiative involved collaboration with key stakeholders, including CCBRT Moshi, Songambele Initiative, Mwenge Catholic University, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre University, Stefano Moshi Memorial University College, alongside several schools including Old Moshi Secondary School, Mwereni Primary School, Msandaka Primary School, and Moshi Technical Secondary School.
Speaking during the event, the Director of Student Services, Dr. Elisifa Nko, noted that the primary objective was to enhance participants’ capacities while strengthening collaboration among institutions supporting individuals with special needs.
The event provided a platform for participants to interact, share experiences, and exchange knowledge on institutional efforts toward inclusive infrastructure and support systems, as well as identifying opportunities available within the community.
A range of participatory approaches were employed, including motivational testimonials from MoCU graduates with special needs, aimed at inspiring and encouraging participants. These sessions were complemented by interactive presentations, discussions, and question-and-answer sessions.
Additionally, inclusive group activities and games were incorporated as practical tools for promoting the concept of inclusivity, enabling participants to recognise their abilities and the importance of active engagement in social and developmental activities.
This initiative reflects MoCU’s commitment to inclusive education, empowerment, and the promotion of equal opportunities for all learners.
