The Vice Chancellor of Moshi Cooperative University (MoCU), Prof. Alfred Sife, represented the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, at the opening of the 61st National Conference of the Tanzania Mathematical Association (CHAHITA), held for five days at the MoCU Main Campus in Moshi.

The conference, held under the theme “Mathematics and Hope,” has brought together teachers, lecturers, researchers, and education stakeholders from various parts of the country, alongside professional development training activities.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Prof. Sife emphasized the importance of mathematics in education, research, innovation, science, and technology. He urged teachers to use the opportunity to exchange experiences and learn new approaches to improve teaching and learning.

The Chairperson of CHAHITA, Dr. Saidi Sima, commended the Sixth-Phase Government for its continued investment in education through programmes such as the Samia Scholarship and initiatives such as the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project, which expand opportunities for students and contribute to developing professionals in science and technology.

He further noted that the training aims to strengthen teaching systems, social and cognitive skills, motivate teachers, raise public awareness of the applications of mathematics, and provide recommendations for improving examination systems and teaching and learning infrastructure.
