Assistant Lecturer


Mr. Nicholaus P. Ong’om joined the Department of Community Development and Gender back in 2007 as an assistant lecturer. Before joining the department, he was a credit officer with PRIDE Tz, a microfinance NGO that operated in many regions in Tanzania. He has also worked as a part-time development officer with the Church of God project initiatives in Arusha municipality before working at PRIDE Tz Ltd.

He is a trained international development practitioner with over 10 years of teaching development-related courses in the Faculty of Co-operative and Community Development. His academic and research expertise lies at the intersection of financial inclusion, community intervention processes, micro-entrepreneurship, and community development theories of change.

Mr. Ong’om teaches courses on community intervention, promotion & management of CBOs, and community organizing drawing from his expertise and qualifications in these fields.

When not teaching he contributes to the Faculty’s vision of being a leading community development education hub by supporting various initiatives such as developing departmental courses, and course contents and helping in collaborations across disciplines.
