The Faculty of Co-operative and Community Development (FCCD) serves as among the University’s premier centres for education, training, and capacity building in co-operative and community development. The faculty advances its mission through high-quality teaching, research, consultancy, and advisory services.

FCCD offers a wide range of academic programmes, including a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD by Thesis), four master’s degree programmes, two postgraduate diploma programmes, seven bachelor’s degree programmes, one diploma programme, and one certificate programme. These programmes focus on key disciplines such as Co-operative Management, Co-operative Accounting, Co-operative Auditing, Economics, Community Economic Development, Social Work, and Statistics, while maintaining a distinctive emphasis on co-operative values, skills, and knowledge.

The faculty has successfully attracted students from across Tanzania, East Africa, other parts of Africa, and various countries around the world. Through its diverse academic offerings, FCCD has consistently produced highly skilled and competent graduates who contribute meaningfully to their respective professions and areas of specialisation.

Most programmes within the faculty are delivered under a semester system, with the academic year divided into two semesters. In addition, some evening and distance-learning programmes are offered through a modular system to provide greater flexibility and accessibility for learners.

The faculty is responsible for the overall administration and management of academic affairs within its jurisdiction. Its responsibilities include monitoring the quality of teaching and learning facilities, overseeing examinations, preparing students’ academic transcripts, and developing and implementing both short-term and long-term strategic plans. The faculty also manages budget preparation, mobilises resources to support its activities, and communicates decisions regarding students’ requests for examination postponements and appeals. In addition, it regularly assesses the relevance and marketability of academic programmes offered by its departments. Through the Faculty Board, FCCD reviews and recommends provisional examination results for all academic programmes under its departments.

Core administrative functions include academic planning, examination management, degree certification, and student progression oversight. FCCD drives programme review cycles and market-scan exercises to ensure courses remain relevant, competency-based, and aligned to employer needs. Financial stewardship, resource mobilisation, and transparent budget management support the faculty's teaching, research, and engagement mandates.

FCCD also plays a central role in coordinating academic programme development, graduation processes, and the implementation of activities undertaken by its constituent departments. The faculty facilitates the preparation of revenue-generating project proposals and contributes to the development of the University Almanack. Furthermore, it promotes staff capacity building by coordinating advanced research training and professional development initiatives.

In its advisory capacity, the faculty guides student enrolment and admissions to programmes under its jurisdiction, as well as the recruitment of academic and administrative staff. FCCD is also responsible for fostering institutional partnerships and strengthening academic linkages with universities, higher learning institutions, co-operative societies, and other organisations at both national and international levels, thereby enhancing collaboration, knowledge exchange, and institutional growth.
