The Faculty of Co-operative and Community Development (FCCD) is a centre of excellence in teaching, applied research, and community engagement. It advances knowledge and practice in co-operative management, community economic development, social protection, and participatory governance by combining rigorous academic programmes with hands-on field projects, policy advisory work, and targeted capacity-building initiatives.
FCCD delivers a comprehensive portfolio of programmes — from certificate and diploma courses to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral study — designed to equip graduates with technical competence, ethical leadership, and entrepreneurial skills. Programmes place strong emphasis on experiential learning, internships with cooperatives and community organisations, and opportunities for interdisciplinary research that addresses real-world development challenges.
The faculty maintains active partnerships with government agencies, cooperative federations, NGOs, and international development partners to co-design training, deliver consultancy services, and implement community-focused projects. Its graduates consistently secure roles in cooperative enterprises, public service, civil society, and the private sector, where they apply cooperative principles to drive inclusive economic growth.
To increase accessibility, FCCD offers flexible delivery options including semester-based, modular evening, and distance-learning formats. The faculty is committed to continuous curriculum renewal, quality assurance, and strengthening research capacity to respond to evolving regional and global priorities.

FCCD drives programme review cycles and market-scan exercises to ensure courses remain relevant, competency-based, and aligned to employer needs. Financial stewardship, resource mobilisation, and transparent budget management support the faculty's teaching, research, and engagement mandates.
Research, consultancy, and extension form an essential pillar of FCCD's work: faculty members lead applied research projects, provide technical advisory services to cooperatives and policymakers, and run training programmes that build local capacity. The faculty also coordinates internships, field placements, and community-based learning that connect students with practice settings.
Through active partnership-building, quality assurance, staff development, and alumni engagement, FCCD promotes innovation in cooperative business models, evidence-informed policy, and inclusive value-chain development — contributing measurably to regional socio-economic development goals.
