Programme Overview

The Master of Banking and Financial Services (MBF) programme is offered in both full-time and evening modes, providing flexibility for working professionals and full-time students. The programme is designed to provide advanced and comprehensive education in banking and financial services management. It equips students with the knowledge, analytical skills and practical competencies required to succeed in the rapidly changing and competitive financial sector. The programme prepares graduates to assume leadership and managerial roles in banks, microfinance institutions, insurance companies, regulatory authorities, government institutions, investment firms, development organizations and other public and private-sector institutions. Students engage in rigorous coursework, case studies, research and practical projects that strengthen critical thinking, decision-making, innovation and problem-solving skills. MBF programme provides the knowledge, competencies and professional tools required to thrive in today’s dynamic financial environment.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives are to:

• To provide advanced knowledge and skills in managing digital banking services, Financial Institutions governance, and ethics for effective leadership and decision-making.
• To develop expertise in specialized areas such as banking, stock markets, insurance, social security, and microfinance.
• To enhance analytical and investigative abilities in areas including credit risk, with a view to strengthening decision-making frameworks, improving financial diagnostics, and fostering sound risk management practices within microfinance and cooperative financial institutions.
• To prepare students to leverage digital innovations such as FinTech and digital banking within the finance sector.
• To cultivate strong research capabilities through independent project or dissertation work, contributing to the advancement of Banking and Financial Services knowledge.

General Entry Requirements

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Microfinance, Banking, Accounting, Auditing, Insurance, Finance, Taxation, Social Sciences, Cooperative, Risk management, Business Management, Social Security, Economics, Business Administration or any other business-related discipline, with an average of 'B' or a minimum GPA of 2.7.
• An Advanced Diploma in Microfinance, Banking, Finance, Accounting, or any related field, with an average of 'B' or a minimum GPA of 2.7.
• Postgraduate Diploma in a related discipline with an average of 'B' or a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Professional qualification such as CPSP (T), CIPS, CPA (T), CPB and ACCA with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability and a minimum of two years of working experience.
• Proficiency in English is required for all applicants.
