Programme Overview

The Master in Development Planning (MDP) programme is designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and skills in development planning. The programme enables students to systematically and creatively reflect on theory and application to address complex issues in community development and planning. Graduates will be able to design, appraise, and make sound judgments using research data and information, plan and implement tasks autonomously, and communicate research findings effectively to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. This programme prepares students to work independently with minimal supervision and contribute meaningfully to community development interventions.

Specific Objectives

The specific objectives are to:

  • Enable students to systematically and creatively reflect on theory and application in addressing complex issues in community development and planning.
  • Equip students with the skills to design, appraise, and make sound judgments using research data and information.
  • Develop the ability to autonomously plan and implement tasks with a professional orientation.
  • Enhance communication skills to clearly present research findings to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Foster the ability to learn and work independently with minimal supervision.

General Entry Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Planning, Project Management, Economics, Cooperative, Community Development, Business, Social Sciences, Sociology, Education, Environmental Studies, Rural Development, Development Studies, Gender, Archeology, Anthropology, Philosophy, Social Work, Health System Management, or related field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 2.7.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in any relevant field with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Professional Training qualifications such as CPA (T), ACCA, CPB, CPSP (T) with additional relevant training, evidence of research capability, and a minimum of two years of working experience.
