Welcome to the Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU). I wish to invite prospective students, scholars, development partners, or anyone planning of getting university education, doing research and writing scholarly works, or making consultation and other services that we offer. To our continuing students, I am delighted that you have chosen to invest in your future career life with us. Get assured that we are committed to supporting you in achieving your goals.

MoCU is a public university that has come a long way since 1963 as a tertiary college offering certificates and diplomas in the co-operative sector. It became a university college in 2004 and finally a full-fledged university in 2014. At present, MoCU offers programs at certificate, diploma, bachelor degree, postgraduate diploma, master degree and PhD levels. The total student population is currently about 9,000.

Our key areas of expertise are co-operative development and management, business, economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, microfinance, banking, accounting, taxation, law, procurement and supply chain management, human resource management, information technology, and community development. We are recognized as a centre of excellence in co-operative studies and business management by the East African Community. Our core values are cooperation, objectivity, pursuit of excellence, integrity, accountability, courtesy to all, and social responsibility.

As we all know, cooperatives are important enterprises for sustainable businesses, job creation as well as empowering individuals, families, and communities. In the current globalized world, co-operatives need to leverage on technological advances, innovate and employ contemporary business models and practices, and vigorously entrench socio-economic policies in their operations. We are therefore supposed to produce graduates who will be able to work in the modern business environment. Graduates of today are also increasingly required to live and work across borders and cultures. To this end, MoCU is geared up to meet these challenges by employing enterprising tendencies, interactive learning, latest technologies, and appropriate pedagogical approaches. I invite you to explore a wide range of academic programs and extra-curricular services that we have.

Many of our graduates have taken up employment, management and leadership positions in and beyond Tanzania. They are in co-operatives, banks, microfinance institutions, businesses, politics, local government and various companies. Accordingly, MoCU graduates are consistently ranked high by employers and enjoy excellent job prospects. Many have also employed themselves and some started businesses that employ other graduates. Our University prepares students to discover their true potential, overcome challenges, and seize the opportunities of today’s complex society.

Our main focus is to provide higher education that meets international standards. Our members of staff are continuously involved in research; the outcome of which is passed on to students. The entrepreneurial zeal of the students is encouraged and nurtured. I would like to conclude by pointing out that MoCU is marching ahead in the right direction, providing premium quality education and playing a positive role in development.

Welcome to the Moshi Co-operative University!
