Master of Arts in Cooperative and Community Development (MA-CCD)

The Cooperative and Community Development Master’s Degree Programme prepares candidates for professional careers as cooperative and community development facilitators in the public and private sectors of the economy. It is an applied social science programme which provides candidates with an understanding of the interrelated, social, economic and technical factors that contribute to dynamic changes in communities and cooperative organizations. Attention is given to the management of cooperative and community dynamics, with an emphasis on cooperative and community problem identification, problem resolution and organizational change. This programme further provides candidates with the needed tools to evaluate the internal operations of cooperatives and communities and assist community leaders in dealing with development processes.

The programme is offered in full-time and evening modes which involves coursework and a dissertation for 18 months. Applicants for the programme must have one of the following qualities:

  • At least a Second-Class Bachelor’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning in a relevant field of study; or
  • A Pass Class at undergraduate level with work experience of not less than three years in a relevant field; or
  • Post Graduate Diploma in a related field of study from a recognized institution of higher learning; or
  • Relevant Professional qualifications plus basic degree.
