I feel privileged to welcome you all to the Moshi Co-operative University (MoCU). I wish to invite all prospective students, parents, teachers, researchers, development partners, or anyone thinking of getting university education and other services that we offer. It is my hope that this website will give you information on opportunities that await you at this University.
MoCU is one of the public universities in Tanzania that has come a long way since 1963 as a college offering certificates and diplomas in the co-operative sector. It became a university college in 2004 and finally a full-fledged university in 2014. Currently, MoCU offers programmes at various levels namely certificates, diplomas, bachelor degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master degrees and PhD. The total student population is currently about 10,000.
We are recognized as a centre of excellence in co-operative studies and business management by the East African Community. Our areas of expertise include co-operative education and development, business, economics, marketing, entrepreneurship, finance, banking, accounting, taxation, law, procurement and supply chain management, human resource management, information technology and community development.
As we are all aware, globally, co-operatives need to leverage on technological advances, globalization and innovations as well as to vigorously entrench socio-economic policies in their operations in order to remain competitive and sustainable. On the other hand, the graduates of today are increasingly required to live and work across boundaries, borders and cultures. To this end, MoCU is geared up to meet these challenges by harnessing the latest technologies, enterprising tendencies, interactive learning and appropriate pedagogical approaches in order to building up core competencies, academic excellence and graduate employability. We offer excellent learning environment plus a wonderful array of social activities such as sporting facilities.
Many of our graduates have taken up leadership and management positions in and beyond Tanzania; they are in co-operatives, banks, microfinance institutions, business, politics, local government and various companies. Accordingly, MoCU graduates are consistently ranked high by employers and enjoy excellent job prospects. The University prepares students to discover their true potential for whatever the future holds. They will acquire quality education and skills needed to meet challenges and seize the opportunities of today’s complex society.
Our main focus is to provide higher education of global standards and hence, all programmes are designed to meet international standards. Highly experienced and qualified faculty and other members of staff, are continuously engaged in the maintenance and enhancement of student-centric learning environment. At MoCU, research, consultancy and innovation are regarded as our pillars of success. Most of the faculty members are involved in research and the outcome of the research is passed on to students. The entrepreneurial zeal of the students is encouraged and nurtured. I would like to conclude by pointing out that MoCU is marching ahead in the right direction, providing premium quality education and playing a positive role in development.
